The atari.archive.umich.edu "Just the 'faqs' faq" - an Umich Atari Posse Product
(This is really old and needs to be placed. -JW 26/4/94)
Recent changes are marked with a *
This faq has been revamped to provide just the "faqs", less talk
and more rock. Ready?
1. How the hell do I get to atari.archive?
By order of preference:
1. AFS (if you don't know what it is, you don't have it, forget I
mentioned it). In /afs/umich.edu/group/itd/archive/atari.
2. Gopher (Other gophers/North America/USA/Michigan/Merit/Software
* Archives or Popular Gopher Servers/Software Archives at Michigan).
3. FTP - Be sure to check for mirrors that are closer to home. For
instance src.doc.ic.ac.uk (/computing/systems/atari/umich) and
wuarchive.wustl.edu (/mirrors/archive.umich.edu/atari).
* wustl ran out of disk space and hasn't been keeping all of
us there. Please avoid it until they fix their problem.
4. Mail - Send mail to atari@atari.archive.umich.edu with a body
of help for the help file. Questions about BART to
brode@atari.archive.umich.edu
2. Uploads?
You bet we want 'em. Via afs, cp into /afs/umich.edu/group/itd/archive
/atari/New. Via ftp, ftp into atari/New (will not work at mirrors).
Via gopher, impossible, see mail. By mail, uuencoded chunks to
weiner@atari.archive.umich.edu.
3. Sacrifices in our honour?
You bet. Small children and farm animals only please.
4. Why the hell do things take so long to get from New to the
archive?
* Come on, things haven't been that bad lately, have they?
5. I'm completely confused by this post, who can clarify it for me?
I'll do my best, weiner@atari.archive.umich.edu. If that don't work,
weiner@terminator.rs.itd.umich.edu. If that don't work,
weiner@stat.umn.edu. If that don't work, weiner@beryl.labmed.umn.edu.
If that don't work, Jeff Weiner 414 Erie St SE #14, Mnpls, MN 55414.
* Although note that I will be on vacation from June 14 to July 5.
Look out Europe, here I come!
Good night,
